It is almost as if they have put this season in the past. I even hear people say “it was a washout”. In my opinion the season has only just begun.
After this water clears, I think the pelagics will fire with a bang. Most have written the macks off for the year but don’t get hasty!
Water temps are up, and if slimeys can be found you are in with a shot. Cobia should also be showing up, with last year being a good year for them hopefully we can expect the same.
Jewfish are still hanging about in this dirty water and as it clears they will revert to their clandestine activities sticking close to the rocks - only revealing themselves after sundown.
Beaches have been fishing well this week with all the regulars coming in like bream and whiting with the cleaner water and the tide rising in the evening ... the only thing left is to hook up!
If bass are on your agenda hit them now! They are hungry and mobile moving from pool to pool unimpeded. Soft plastics are a very underutilised lure for bass and for the life of me I cannot understand why ... they are cheap, they can be fished on the surface all the way to the bottom and the dizzying array of styles shapes and colours is sure to appeal to even the fussiest bass.
Give them a try next time you head bush - you will be pleasantly surprised.
