A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the bridge is being built as part of the Nambucca Heads to Urunga Pacific Highway upgrade, with each bridge girder 26 metres long and weighing 42 tonnes.
“Three of the 11 girders required for the bridge over the rail line were delivered to the site last week, with the remaining eight to be delivered and installed throughout the week, weather permitting,” the spokesperson said.
Work on the bridge started in September last year.
“The community will see the bridge structure taking shape as the week progresses, although further work will be required before it’s ready for use," the spokesperson said.
“Once the beams are secured, work will then be carried out on the bridge deck, throw screens and bridge barriers, with the entire structure expected to be completed by mid this year weather permitting.
“Additionally, a further 14 bridge girders will be delivered during the week for work on the Nambucca interchange bridge."
Work on the Nambucca interchange bridge started in September last year and requires 28 metre long girders.
“All 22 girders, for both the bridge over the rail line and the interchange, will be delivered from Macksville to the work sites via Boggy Creek Rd between 4am and 7pm each day, with NSW Police to escort the delivery vehicles," the spokesperson said.
“Traffic control will be in place and motorists may be stopped in both directions on the Pacific Highway at Boggy Creek Rd while the girders travel to the project site.”
Motorists are advised to plan their journey, follow all signs and allow for potential short delays. Wet weather may change work dates and times.
Electronic message signs will also advise motorists of the changed conditions.
