IT’S NOT often someone would turn down the chance to go to the Academy Awards, but for Scotts Head’s David Lee, instead of brushing shoulders with the stars in Los Angeles, he was anchored down on the Gold Coast shooting the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie with some other A-listers.

“If I wasn’t at work, I would have been there for sure!” David told the Guardian.
“But things are going very well here (on the Gold Coast) and I’m really enjoying the job.”
Lee was nominated for one of the famous golden statuettes for his work on Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken, but unfortunately for the 58-year-old, he was unable to repeat his 2000 success when he won the sound mixing Oscar for The Matrix.
This year’s award was won by the team from Whiplash.
“A friend logged onto Facebook when lunch was called and I caught a few updates that way,” David said.
“Well done Whiplash ... I had better go and see it now.”
