This transformation of the park is part of a million dollar redevelopment of a new ‘fitness precinct’ - council’s plan to reinvent the town post bypass.
Macksville Skatepark project committee member Cheryl Lee Dennis said surveys had been run on Facebook and also by the council.
“There were two designs drawn up and a vast majority of the votes went to Design 1 (pictured above),” she said.
“This design has more areas to allow multiple skaters on the rink at one time and a lot more options.
“The kids are so wrapped - they didn’t think anyone was paying attention because it is a little out of the way.
“Now they can’t wait until it’s done.”
Council is currently calling for tenders while skaters champ at the bit, hoping the process is finished by June.
The new design includes:
1. Mini ramp - 1200 high: transition section offering stand alone space and/or connects to existing facility with transfers and banked entry. Includes sub rail and perforated vert wall with cutout.
2. Flat bank - 600 high: Level change with fly out rail and banked wall as euro-gap
3. Quarter pipe - 1200 high: Transition to allow starting point and transfers from mini ramp
4. Mogul - 450 high: Mogul is an opportunity to increase speed to hit adjoining elements
5. Flat bank/stair - 600 high: Level change with skate rail and frontside/backside hubba ledges
6. Banked wall - 600 high: Wall to allow flow through space, includes cut out for advanced tricks over upstand ledge
7. Street elements: Flat bar, manual pad and China bank style walls for transfer over ledge
8. Hipped banks - 900 high: Banked end to allow flow in a variety of directions and to offer a starting platform for all users
9. Landscape: Highlighted social/entry spaces as connection to proposed path, encouraging wider participation. Spaces to allow for seating and future provision of shelter, entry signage, drinking fountain and bins.
