The same reaction greeted ‘fellow Talarm team mates’ Finn Laverty, Andrew Blackford and Jess Laverty when they crossed the strip in their respective races.
Reid contested the 65cc and 85cc classes in the 9-12years division ... and the win saw him take out top honors on the podium ahead of the current world champion, and three time Australian champion, for the second consecutive year.
Although the (world) champ turned the tables and got his revenge edging Reid out in the 85cc class to see the final placings reversed.
“Everyone thought last year was a fluke, but to come out and beat the champ again was great,” Reid said.
It was a solid finish for riding partner Finn Laverty who also added some silverware to the trophy cabinet after taking out number one in the 85cc class.
A series of unfortunate events in the lead up to the final saw Finn finish eighth in his 125cc class, but that didn't dampen his spirits.
“It was real tough in both classes,” Finn said. “Going into the final of the 65cc first, second and third place were on equal points.
“I saw my opportunity and came up the inside and closed the gap and won.”
Andrew Blackford was surprised with his day of racing in the B Grade opens, completely unaware of his success and ranking until the podium winners were announced.
“I’d raced pretty well but didn’t think I’d place,” he said. “I had a good last race which must have put me up on points - so I’m stoked with the result.”
It was the first time both Finn and Andrew placed on the podium.
But Saturday wasn’t all about the boys with Finn’s sister Jess finishing in the middle of her field after a solid effort in the lead up and again in the final.
The Stadium Motor Cross saw around 350 competitors and thousands of spectators converge on Coffs Harbour Stadium for what racing enthusiasts describe as the “biggest stadium cross event in the country”.
