Severely hindered by a rare form of ‘photoaggravated eczema and solar urticaria’, which leaves her covered in rashes after any sun exposure, life is not easy for Monroe.
Not only does she break out in a rash that is intensely itchy, but she also becomes lethargic and will barely eat.
Things have however taken a positive turn with the $20,000 fundraising target to buy a special bath now reached. The bath has microscopic bubbles that enter the pores and cleanse the skin, offering relief to Monroe.
“The support from the community has been unbelievable,” her mum Sarah told the Guardian.
“So many people have contributed and helped, and still continue to help.”
Large amounts of publicity, through media and social media, has not only brought Monroe’s condition into the public arena but also helped alleviate some of her daily struggles.
“We would always have little girls and even adults staring at her and you would hear what they were saying – some of it was horrible,” Sarah said.
“Now that they have a basic understanding, and know who she is and why she has to dress the way she does, they look to her and wave.
“I even have young girls coming up and asking Monroe to play with them when we’re at a cafe or something.
“It’s really beautiful to see.
“She thinks she’s a celebrity now!”
The next item on the agenda is to find some qualified tradies to assist with the bathroom renovations.
Anyone who is able to help can contact Sarah through Monroe’s Facebook Page – Miracle for Monroe.
“We’re coming out fighting this year and we won’t stop until Monroe can live a some-what normal life.”
