Macksville Cycle Club along with BCU and the River Festival have organised the first annual ‘Brian Cockbain Memorial Ride Around The River’.
This fun cycle ride (called RATR for short) will give everyone the chance to ‘lap’ the Nambucca River. The ride will start at 9am on Sunday, November 30. The course begins at Macksville, heads out to Bowraville, with riders returning to festival central on the other side of the river.
Riders from all over the Mid North Coast and as far afield as Queensland have already booked for this event. The ride is a memorial to local cycling legend Brian Cockbain, who tragically passed away earlier this year and is fondly remembered by many in the region.
“We want this event to be a big success, with lots of local people dusting off their bikes and having a go at what is not only a decent challenge, but a very pretty ride,” Macksville Cycle Club president Peter Joyce said.
Further information about the first annual RATR is on the dedicated website: www.macksvillecycle.com.au/ratr, including how to enter and the route maps.
Many local business have come onboard to help get this event off the ground. Some large national businesses have also stepped in to sponsor the event with cool prizes to give away.
The organisers will be helped with marshalling duties by the football club, for which they are very grateful, but if anyone is interested in volunteering to ‘man an intersection’ for a couple hours on the day they should contact the cycle club through the website or phone 0427 800-206.
