Jack Newman, 16, scorched home in the Gift final to get the prize and the accolades from his fellow runners - professionals and amateurs.
The Macksville Gift - under a cloud earlier in 2014 due to a lack of funding - ended up being as successful as any with a monster program that included racing, a procession of floats through the town, fireworks, a Little As carnival, markets stalls and a pageant of princesses.
And, of course, there was the banana hurling competition which was among the highlights on the evening schedule.
