Local police said they were still no closer to discovering the cause of the accident, which reportedly saw the Queensland registered southbound car torpedo off the road near the Deep Creek intersection and hit a tree.
The 46-year-old driver was trapped in the car until released by emergency services.
Paramedics treated her for abdominal injuries at the scene before she was airflifted to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital by the Westpac Rescue helicopter, where she is reportedly in a stable condition and recovering from her injuries, which are not classed as life-threatening.
The woman was the sole occupant of the car.
The highway was fully reopened by 12.30pm.
