The newest section of the Nambucca Heads to Macksville cycleway has been finished, and council and the Nambucca Plaza invite bike riders and walkers to the celebration which will include an official opening, guided bike rides and other activities.
The Nambucca Heads Bike Week event will include local cycling group volunteers conducting bike safety checks and prizes will be awarded for the best decorated bikes.
NSW Bike Week is an annual celebration of cycling, encouraging people from all walks of life to get on a bike and ride – for health, for transport, for fun. Information on bike rides in the local area and other cycling information will be available on the day.
Council received funding for the construction of the new section of cycleway from Roads and Maritime Services.
The open day event will start at 9am at the Plaza carpark with bike safety checks. All bike riders must have a helmet and a ‘ride-worthy’ cycle.
The best-decorated bike parade takes place at 9.30am with prizes donated by local businesses.
The official opening is at 10am, then riders will cycle from the Plaza to Kingsworth Estate and back, a distance of 6km. The first 200 finishers will receive water bottles.
The Nambucca Valley VIEW Club will celebrate the opening with a walk by members and others from 11am.
Nambucca Bicycle Users’ Group (NAMBUG) riders will be on hand to guide riders who want to do a longer course through Kingsworth Estate and back to the Plaza or mountain bike riders on dirt tracks to Jacks Ridge in the nearby State Forest. More information on these rides will be available on the day.
Participants are encouraged to register before the event; for more information go to council’s website www.nambucca.nsw.gov.au.
Children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
