The event will be on Saturday, August 30, at the Nambucca Heads Leagues Club from 5 o’clock for a 5.30pm start.
It will celebrate:
* 50 years since the first grade team were major premiers for the second time, in 1964, following their first success in 1962.
* 56 years since the under 18s Roosters were major premiers in 1958 – for the first time ever.
* Everyone involved with the club over the years – players, officials and committee, families, etc.
* A plan to bring back the Roosters for 2015 after the senior club reluctantly had to go into recess this season.
John Sullivan – a former Nambucca Heads junior and first grade player who joined North Sydney first grade – will return and take on the role as MC for the night, with Michael Ryan sharing the duties and circulating with the ‘roving mic’.
The entire (living) 1964 team have RSVPed as attending as well as several members from the 18s team.
“This event will bring together players who haven’t been together, or seen each other, for years,” Garry Johnson, who was part of both the 1964 first grade team and the Under 18s 1958 team, told the Guardian.
“Everyone I talk to about it is excited about meeting together again and celebrating their premiership wins.
“As well as the celebrations, we’re hoping to create interest and get the club going again … since the club first started (apart from the war years) there has always been a team.
“I think people are a bit lost without a team in Nambucca.”
To join in the festivities, book with Debbie at the Leagues Club, Pat Broderick on 0418 666-311 or Garry Johnson on 0407 007-694, for catering purposes. Tickets cost $20 per person which includes a Chinese banquet.
* On Sunday from 10am, the club will also hold its AGM in the hopes of filling committee positions and to get the ball rolling for the Roosters to take the field in 2015.
