The hard-working, long-serving Red Cross volunteer would love to see the shire festooned in red, white and black for the centenary of the high-profile charity on August 13.
To help achieve that goal, the Red Cross is running a shop window competition, asking businesses to show their support from August 11 to 15.
“Community support for this event has been excellent so far,” Lesley said.
“It is such a special milestone and the fact that in 1914, when the Red Cross was founded here in Australia, there were branches in Taylors Arm, Macksville, Bowraville and Nambucca Heads, makes it special for our community.”
This week and next, Lesley and other Red Cross volunteers will be visiting businesses throughout the shire, encouraging everyone to be part of honouring ‘the power of humanity’ that is the Red Cross.
And if a window display is a step too far, then the Red Cross is offering free red and white balloons to fly on the day.
For more information/entry forms contact Lesley on 6568-7638 or bigalnam6@bigpond.com before August 1.
