That the hall still stands proudly today and remains relevant to the community is testament to the efforts of local residents who have given many hours of voluntary work to help maintain the facility in such good condition.
To mark the centenary, an updated history of Utungun has been published, with loads of new stories and photographs. This book will be for sale on Saturday and Sunday of the long weekend, along with lots of merchandise including Utungun t-shirts.
Events planned for the long weekend include:
Saturday, October 4:
8pm - Centenary Ball with music provided by Noble Groove. Special supper served in a huge marquee which, along with the hall, will be beautifully decorated.
Tickets are limited and must be purchased prior to the ball so get your friends together and make a booking.
Sunday, October 5:
10.15am - Morning tea (Devonshire Teas and/or damper).
11am - Welcome to Country, flag raising and singing of National Anthem.
11.30am - Sing-a-long led by Nambucca Entertainers.
There will also be an opportunity to peruse a ‘timeline’ in the hall, tracing events from before European settlement and featuring lots of information and photos.
Also on display throughout the day in side the hall will be the spectacular honour board and war photos.
Noon onwards - Lunchtime family picnics and barbecue meals for sale.
Sunday afternoon will be a chance to catch up with friends, old and new, in the friendly environment of the ‘Yarning Circle’.
There will also be plenty of entertainment and games for young people on the day.
