Senior Constable Stephen Cherry, from the Crime Management Unit, Mid North Coast Local Area Command, will be the speaker.
Snr Const Cherry has agreed to address U3A members and the public on ‘Safety for Seniors’.
The forum will be held at the small hall at the Nambucca Entertainment Centre, Ridge St, Nambucca Heads on Monday July 28 from 2-4pm. Entry fee is $2 per person.
Snr Const Cherry will talk on:
* Defending oneself (physically) in one’s home
* Effectiveness of closed circuit television (CCTV) and its cost effectiveness
* The pros and cons of employing security contractors
* The importance of self-help and self-awareness by residents and businesses
* The importance of neighbours
* The importance of noticing ‘odd’ things in your street/neighbourhood. Don’t underestimate what you see - if it is out of the ordinary in your own street
* Police are only as good as the information received from the public
* Reporting any crime is very important. Don’t assume that it is wasting police time or is too trivial – it may be part of a puzzle. A lot of crime does not get reported.
The crime forum is set to be a treasure chest of important information for the community and there will be an opportunity to ask questions.
