Nambucca Valley novelist Greg Barron, has brought the frightening realities of terrorism to our front door in his latest blockbuster work, Lethal Sky.
The thriller, his third thriller in the Marika Hartmann series, has been released by publishing giant HarperCollins Australia and Barron describes it as his “biggest story yet.”
“I loved having some familiar locations in the story," said Barron, who admits to enjoying a more local canvas for parts of the new book.
“Researching Middle Eastern and North African settings has been both difficult and fraught with danger. Flying out of Sydney, describing the rooftops and shining waterways was an absolute pleasure.”
The novel begins with the death of indentured Pakistani labourers in a so-called “experiment”, followed by a light aircraft flying over Sydney carrying the spores of a deadly microbe, enough to render the city uninhabitable for decades. The heroine from Barron’s two previous books, Marika Hartmann, races to the scene, unable to shoot the plane down for fear of releasing the spores.
In Europe and America a swarm of terrifying new weapons, armed with the same bio-agent, gather in the skies. In this new world where drones scan our lives from above, and industrial powers spread their lethal hardware worldwide, Lethal Sky asks the question. Who can be trusted?
Lethal Sky was launched at Gleebooks, Sydney, last Saturday by former US Intelligence Analyst and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment veteran, "BlackSheep."
He described Greg's books as: "Compulsively readable thrillers that are unprecedented in their attention to detail and realism, bringing the modern world of terrorism and counter terrorism to life in a way no other author has achieved.”
A former St Patrick’s College, Goulburn student, Barron previously visited the town for the launch of his first book in the Marika Hartmann series, Rotten Gods. Both it and the sequel Savage Tide were best sellers and the character also featured in a shorter work, Voodoo Dawn.
