This is a tough competition as the judges are thorough when looking at each item.
Dianne McNeil has two items going to State in May. A Brazilian embroidered cushion and a Hardanger table runner.
The items that made up the first prize also included a beautiful fair isle jumper, cross stitched sweet pea fairies and beaded work embroidery.
The ladies who made these delightful prize winning articles are Dianne, Nola, Gloria and Sarah.
We wish Dianne success at State, which will be held at Griffith.
Further excitement for our branch was the ‘Judges award’ in cooking at Group - won by Joan Bagnell with her ‘light as a feather’, honey sponge sandwich. The mock cream with honey to taste was the judges preferred choice.
Now Joan has the task ahead of entering the cake, as well as a steamed fruit pudding, and others into State.
At the Group Council Meeting in Tuncurry, Joan was awarded second for a gluten free caramel and almond flake slice, and third for the Donna Latter chocolate cake and a second for her carrot lemon jam. Kathleen Miller gained third place for her whole orange cake.
Further acknowledgments came with a certificate of encouragement and participation of our branch’s entry into the recycled article.
A happy branch meeting was held on March 6 with much applause ringing around the room.
At the Group Council we had 78 members present, including a lady who was celebrating turning 99 years of age.
In 2015 Port Macquarie will host the National Conference for ACWW and it is anticipated that many branches will attend.
At the Nambucca Branch we are starting butterfly embroidery panels for a Christmas Quilt, which will be raffled at the end of the year.
Sadly members will no longer be at the Driver Reviver site, south of Macksville, as after the Easter Holidays the RMS will use the site as a gravel dump.
