About 4.30pm on Sunday, police were called to North Street after the teenagers allegedly threatened two security officers with a knife.
The two officers, along with one detainee, got out of the van and were not injured.
Four teenagers, three aged 18 and one 15-year-old, remained in the van and left the scene.
Just after 8am Tuesday police attended an address in Yamba, where they arrested one of the 18-year-olds.
A second 18-year-old was arrested in South Grafton after being spotted and pursued on foot by police.
A search is continuing for the other two escapees, and police are appealing for public assistance to locate them.
The 18-year-old is described as being of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander appearance, between 150cm and 160cm tall, with a medium build and black hair.
The 15-year-old is described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 150cm to 155cm tall, with a thin build and brown hair.
Anyone who sees the detainees is urged not to approach them but to contact Triple Zero ‘000’ immediately.
