THE PACIFIC Highway near Nambucca Heads has fully re-opened to traffic following an horrific accident between a car and a truck on Saturday afternoon in which a woman was killed.
The 77-year-old from Curtin in the ACT died at the scene after her southbound Toyota Camry and a northbound Kenworth prime mover collided shortly after 3 o'clock.
The 42-year-old truck driver escaped serious injury.
Police said the impact of the collision forced the vehicles off the road into nearby bushland and caused major traffic delays.
The highway was open to single lane alternating traffic today as a crane was brought in to retrieve the truck from bushland.
An hour after the crash at Nambucca Heads, a man was killed when his Ford Falcon XR6 and a truck collided near Tamworth.
The driver of the Ford – a 33-year-old Tamworth man – died at the scene, police said.
The driver of the truck – a 40-year-old man from Tamworth – was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening chest injuries.
Both drivers were travelling alone, police said.
