Aria’s mother Linda Stewart, of Cameron Park, was trying to finish her shopping on Christmas Eve when she went into labour four weeks early.
‘‘She wasn’t due until the 24th of January,’’ Ms Stewart said.
‘‘I had an ultrasound in the morning and then went to the shops where I started getting sharp pains and went into labour.
‘‘I guess she liked Christmas shopping and wanted to be involved.’’
Cody’s mother Teagan Jeffree, of Cardiff, was not due until January 1.
Sudden pains on Christmas Eve led to a caesarean section and her second child being born at 12.59am.
‘‘It was a surprise, and it’s special that he has been born on Christmas Day,’’ Ms Jeffree said.
Ms Jeffree’s eldest son Jayce had his photo taken with Santa Claus yesterday holding his baby brother.
Cody weighed 4.050kilograms and Aria weighed 2.4kilograms.
The mums are not sure how they will balance Christmas Day with their child’s birthday, but they agreed that they would definitely get more presents.
Midwives at John Hunter Hospital made the day special for the mums and ensured the festive cheer was spread throughout the maternity ward. The hospital gave each mum a hamper.
