Local junior dragon boat racers Baden Ormandy, Dana Kraschnefski and Georgia Hoffman have had great success in Hong Kong competing with the NSW Torpedoes in the Dragonboat World Titles.
In rough conditions the young competitors did extremely well to win a silver medal in the 2km race and bronze medals in the 500m Open and 500m women’s events.
The Hong Kong harbour is a major shipping terminal and there were quite a few boats capsizing in the big swells.
It was a great experience for the trio and they will have plenty of stories to tell when they return to Macksville.
Hopefully, the local district will have more champions coming up in the future as Dragonboating will be a sports choice for Macksville High students next term.
The Nambucca River Dragons is a young club and is looking for more members, male and female, of all ages from 12 to 90.
* All interested are invited to call in to see Tracey or Rick at Café au Lait in River St or phone 6568-3985.
