A LOCAL father has passed away after an incident at the southern end of Jetty Beach.
The man, believed to be from Urunga, was surfing with his two sons when he is thought to have suffered cardiac arrest just after 11 o'clock this morning.
Witnesses said a young woman jogging by the beach saw the man unconscious in the water with his teenage son, and swam out to help save him.
In the water for around 10 minutes holding the man on a surfboard, passersby called for help from a man and his daughter on two jet skis docked at the boat ramp.
After pulling the man's body onto his jet ski, the rider brought the man to shore and began performing CPR with the help of onlookers.
Paramedics, police and a Coffs Harbour lifeguard arrived shortly after and began performing CPR.
Paramedics attempted unsuccessfully to revive the man on the beach before transporting him to hospital at around 11.45am.
He died on-route to the Coffs Harbour Base Hospital
