IT WAS a successful day both on and off the field on Sunday for the first grade Nambucca Roosters, claiming a 52-12 victory over the Macksville Sea Eagles in a Group 2 rugby league clash, and raising a whopping $7250 in the jersey auction after the game.

Some jerseys were sold at the auction for $500 or more, and Rona Freeman said she was blown away by the
support from the boys and the community for the bid to establish a renal dialysis service at Macksville Hospital.
The Roosters took out the inaugural Freeman-Moran Shield after the convincing win over the Sea Eagles, making it 10 straight for the side, and winger Andrew Budd said it’s nowhere near the end for the boys.
“I think we are continuing to improve every week,” he told the Guardian. “The last few weeks we’ve had a couple of new guys come into the side, but the team is gelling together nicely.
“All 17 players had a great game on Sunday, we
performed exceptionally well, and our four reserves added spark and impact whenever they came on.
“There are always things we can improve on, we just have to play smart, keep it simple and keep working for one another in defence. We have plenty of guys in the team who can score points from anywhere, so we just have to stay patient.”
