Highway bypass ahead of schedule

The $618 million, Federally funded Kempsey Bypass is now on track to be completed in time for next year’s Easter holidays, more than 12 months ahead of schedule.

Representing Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese at Saturday’s official opening of the Frederickton Interchange, the Duty Senator for Cowper, Matt Thistlethwaite, said this milestone in the delivery of the new bypass will allow the project team to complete their work on the northern side of the Macleay River.

“The opening of the Interchange is an important step toward the completion of the Kempsey Bypass, which in turn is crucial to the Federal Labor Government’s goal of completing the duplication of the Highway sooner rather than later,” Sen Thistlethwaite said.

“Once completed, the new bypass will take up to 2000 trucks a day off the local streets of Kempsey and Frederickton and deliver faster, safer and smoother driving conditions for the hundreds of thousands of motorists who use this stretch of highway each year."
