Shortly after 9 o’clock, a prime mover towing a low loader and a Nissan Nivara towing a caravan met at a point on the bridge where neither could reverse.
The truck driver had radioed ahead to notify trucks heading south of his approach, and waited for confirmation that traffic had stopped.
He proceeded onto the bridge after a long pause, however the ute driver had already turned onto the bridge.
After the two connected, the ute continued driving, causing extensive damage to the caravan – before heading to the Macksville Police Station to report the matter.
The truck driver continued north where he was stopped in Coffs Harbour by police.
He was issued with an infringement notice for not giving particulars and driving a vehicle other than the times permitted.
