Elite assemble for carnival

The annual Ken Howard Memorial Bowls Carnival will be held at the Nambucca Heads Bowling and Recreation Club from Friday, June 8 to Wednesday, June 13.

The carnival now in its 36th year will see a quality field of top State and national bowlers

compete for this year’s total prize money of $12,750.

The men’s fours carries prize money of $10,000 and will

commence at 9am Saturday, June 9. The women’s fours carries $2000 in prize money and starts on Tuesday, June 12. The men’s triples starts on Friday, June 8 with $750 up for grabs.

State representative and

winner of the Ken Howard Fours three years in a row (2007-09), Jay Porter from Dubbo Railway Bowling Club, will be back to

compete, as will current NSW

representatives Peter Foster and Crawford Linton.

Other visiting teams include Sydney clubs Austral, Belrose, Bondi, Chester Hill, Greenacre, Francis Drake, Campbelltown and Cabramatta bowling clubs.

Newcastle clubs Cardiff, Edgeworth, West Wallsend and Belmont, Kurri Kurri, Dungog and Mayfield will compete, while

closer to home visitors will come from Foster, Coffs Harbour, Armidale and Guyra.

Lake Cargelligo, Khancoban and Inverell plus local teams

complete the picture.

This carnival would not be

possible without the help of local sponsors.

With more visiting teams competing this year from outside the shire, it is hoped the local economy can benefit somewhat due to the large number of visiting bowlers.

Other highlights include a calcutta on the Friday night, which always offers some good entertainment as well as prize money.

Raffle tickets for the ever-popular Coolum Resort Holiday package and a set of the new Aero Bowls in any size or colour are on sale now.

The Roberts Nambucca Real Estate Men’s Triples commences on Friday, June 8 at 11.45am with three games of 12 ends.

Both the men’s triples and men’s fours events are booked out.
