Not if you are Anthony Walker, a Year 12 student at Bowraville Central School who hasn’t missed a day of school since he was in kindergarten.
His astounding, spotless attendance record was rewarded with a $200 gift voucher from Charles Sturt University (CSU), who were gobsmacked to hear of his achievement.
“I knew I had never missed a day – that’s because mum gets me up every morning,” Anthony told the Guardian.
“Sometimes I was sick but I still came to school ... they were only colds.”
Anthony said he knew he was probably a role model but he had no idea about the special presentation by CSU.
“I’d say mum was feeling pretty proud of me.”
Sport has been another motivating force for Anthony.
“I love sport, all sports ... I reckon that has helped me stay healthy.
“And it also gave me a good reason to get out of bed.”
He said he was hoping to go to university and study “something along the sport lines” when he finished his HSC.
Bowraville Central principal Malcolm McFarlane said the school was proud of Anthony’s commitment and achievements.
“He is a great example of being the best you can be every day,” Mr McFarlane said.
