A kooky adventure complete with a mad scientist, weather girl and talking monkey, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs will be a winner with children and adults alike.
A fun story with off-beat comedy and fantastic animation, it carries with it some serious messages about ambition, greed and knowing who you are.
First, we meet Flint Lockwood, a nerdy child careering towards a highly unsuccessful future as an inventor on the remote island of Swallow Falls.
His most successful invention to date (a strange rat-bird combination) sparked an island-wide extermination program.
He watches as his town slips into decay, brought about by the demise of the sardine trade (“because the world finally realised they were gross”), leaving his father without a good income and the town stuck eating only the leftover sardines.
Faced with a future as an assistant in his dad’s sardine and bait shop, Flint tries one last invention – a machine that uses radiation to convert water into food.
This invention promises to not only prove his ability as an inventor, but put Swallow Falls back on the tourist map.
But, when you are talking radiation and rain-clouds, something is bound to go wrong. Teaming up with weather girl Sam Sparks, Flint sets out on his biggest adventure yet.
Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs has wonderful laugh-out-loud moments coupled with strong characters and humour. It features the voices of Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Mr T and James Caan among a talented crew.
The voices complement the wonderfully crafted images on screen. One for the kids, to be enjoyed by the whole family, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs is screening at Majestic Cinemas, Nambucca Heads, rated G.
