Nambucca’s game on Sunday spelled the final outing for a club legend, when Dean Urquhart ran onto the field at Coronation Park for the last time.
Dean has had a long and outstanding career, having played with the Roosters juniors and seniors for the past 29 years, 22 of which were spent in the senior ranks.
During his career Dean played over 250 first-grade games over a 17-year period, and well over 300 games in for the Roosters.
Players could not ask for a better teammate in Dean, who is always willing to help out and give his all, week in and week out.
No doubt, his career highlights would be his three grand-final wins.
His loyalty to the Nambucca Roosters is unquestionable, always remaining true to the club.
During his career he had fulfilled the roles of trainer, captain and coach.
Dean is one of the most committed players, both on and off the field, for the Roosters and his dedication is unmatched by anyone else in the club.
This is shown by the countless times Dean has chased down wingers and fullbacks to save tries.
In a very touching moment, Dean led the Roosters out in Sunday’s clash against Orara Valley. Undoubtedly, this inspired the Roosters to battle for their first finals birth in 10 years.
Unfortunately, an injury cut short his afternoon, but his effort on the day was huge, as always, playing the full game up until the last few minutes.
Dean will be sorely missed in the first-grade ranks next season, but his presence will continue to be felt with the dedication he has instilled into his fellow Roosters. Dean will also continue to help out at the club, already promising to attend training to keep himself fit.
Dean always led by example and now that example will be his legacy for others to follow.
