In their best season to date, the players in the Under-14s Roosters squad are training hard to take home their first premiership.
Most have been playing together for many years, and in 2009 they finished second behind a Kempsey team that had not been beaten in two seasons.
That all changed in the major semi final, however, when the hard defensive line of the Roosters refused to let the Kempsey attack through.
The boys went on to win 34-22 and went straight through to the grand final, to be held in Woolgoolga next weekend.
Coach Glen Crow said the team was waiting on the outcome of this weekend’s game to see whether they would face Kempsey again in the grand final, or take on the Bowra Tigers squad, which meet this Saturday at Nambucca Heads.
In the lead-up to the big game, Crow said the boys would continue to work on their defence.
“That won us the game against Kempsey,” he said.
“The boys held off four or five sets of six on the line.”
The 14s boys were excited to get straight through, and will fly the flag for Nambucca Heads as the only junior team to make the grand final.
Mr Crow called on supporters to get behind the team and make the trip to Woolgoolga to see the match-up against Kempsey or Bowra.
“Either way it is going to be a tough game,” he said.
