With just less than two months to go till the start of the 2012 VB Gold Group 2 rugby league competition, the Mackville Sea Eagles are flying in their preparations.
New coaches Shayne Cantrill in first grade, Henry Dunn in the reserves and Djaan Jarrett with the under 18s have had their charges training for a month and are well impressed with the quality of players who have been attending training.
With an average of 35 to 40 players attending the sessions, the numbers are looking good for 2012, though there are still some areas to work out, and anyone interested in playing for the Eagles this year is invited to attend training at Allan Gillett Oval on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 6pm.
Jarrett, in particular, is looking forward to a
season in charge of an under 18s squad who are showing good numbers and a lot of quality.
With the club celebrating the centenary of league in the district this year, there is a lot of keen anticipation among the players and supporters to see the Eagles’ one-off guernseys for 2012, and to be involved in the celebrations of this auspicious event.
The Eagles’ pre-season campaign kicks off on the weekend of March 4-5, with a trial game to be held at Allan Gillett Oval against Woolgoolga.
A second trial against Coffs at Coffs will be on the weekend of March 17-18.
The competition proper kicks off on Sunday April 1 with the Eagles to face Sawtell at Rex Hardaker Oval, and the following Sunday the boys will meet Nambucca Heads in Macksville.
