‘Heads’ and ‘Arm’ at top...

04 Mar, 2010 04:00 AM
Fine sunny weather greeted cricketers last Saturday with all games being played. Nambucca Heads and Taylors Arm remain at the top of the table with wins in their respective games.

Warrell Creek upset Macksville Ex-Services at Donnelly/Welsh by batting first and scoring 7/225. Todd Bartlett top-scored with 50 not out while Kyle Mann (44), Joe Costa (40) and Michael Townsend (32) contributed well. Todd Bartlett and Michael Townsend batted the highest partnership of 73, which was for the seventh wicket.

Grant Collison was Ex-Services top wicket taker with 3/25 from his eight overs. Ex-Services in reply were bundled out for 120 in 26 overs with Matthew Ward top scoring with 46.

He and Jake Fuller (22) put on 64 for their third wicket partnership. Kyle Mann took 4/26 from six overs to be Warrell Creek’s top wicket taker. Warrell Creek won by 105 runs.

Taylors Arm played Talarm where Talarm batted first and was dismissed for 83. James Livock top scored with 30 with Shay Bennett making 19. Thomas Rowe was the best with the ball by taking 3/6 from three overs. Taylors Arm in reply scored their winning runs in their 19th over with six wickets down, with John Rowe remained 41 not out.

Nambucca Heads travelled out to Bowraville with the home side batting first, were all out for 105 in the 32nd over. Brad Ronan (3/30) and Steve Savage (3/17) were Nambucca Heads’ best with the ball. Ron Gleeson top scored for Bowraville with 74 of 86 deliveries. The catching and fielding of the Nambucca Heads team was superb with great diving catches to Matt Hardy (2), Justin Saker (1) and Jake Russo (1).

Nambucca started awfully in their run chase with Elliot Keen (3/37) taking the first three wickets to have Nambucca at 3/22 after nine overs. Greg Watts then came to the rescue and guided his team with a steady innings of 46 off 75 balls while Aaron Clarke (16) and Matt Hardy (16) got Nambucca home with 6 wickets to spare in the 31st over.

The Nambucca Hotel/Country Club game was transferred from Thistle Park turf to Willis St with the turf unable to be prepared from rain late last week. Country Club was invited to bat first and was in major trouble very quickly.

They were all out for 31 in the 20th over with Lee Osborn top scoring with 11. Matt Lindsay and Jason Ahearn each took three wickets while Dean Hillary took two. Hotel in reply scored the winning run without loss of a wicket after just six overs.

Dean Welsh (18) and Michael Walker (14) each remained not out. Hotel won by 10 wickets.

Next week and last completion round of games are: Talarm v Macksville Ex-Services at Biffin Field. Nambucca Hotel v Nambucca Heads at Donnelly/Welsh.

Taylors Arm v Macksville Country Club at Taylors Arm. Warrell Creek v Bowraville at Thistle Park turf.
