The Mid North Coast Premier League Netball Season is under way for 2010 with Macleay hosting the first round at Kempsey on Saturday, February 27.
The Nambucca Valley Vipers came up against the Port Macquarie Onyx who are the reigning premiers. The match held much anticipation due to the Vipers closing in on the ladies from Hastings in their most recent match-ups.
The pace of the game was fast and fierce from the first whistle as predicted, as both teams tussled for the lead.
“The Port ladies have height in every position, giving them a huge advantage,” Vipers coach Glenese Welsh said.
“You have to play precision netball to combat them.”
The match played out as it began, fast and tight.
The Vipers showed their commitment, playing strong until the final whistle. Hastings goal shooting
accuracy proved the difference in taking victory 32-20.
“We’re very happy with our performance and the result today.”
Vipers player Catie Thompson said.
“This is the first match of the season, and with a few new faces in our side, this was our first real chance to play together, and to do it against Hastings was a huge ask.
“I think we really gelled as a team and will continue to improve the more we play together.”
The Vipers ladies all played strong games and are excited about the season ahead.
The next match will be at Coffs Harbour, Murray Drive at 3pm on March 13 where the Nambucca Valley Vipers will play Macleay.
Later in the month the Vipers will play local rivals Coffs Harbour in a semi-final rematch at Macksville, on March 27.
