Nambucca Heads undefeated bowlers Grant Lawrence, Mick Ellison and skip Tony Urquhart were named this year’s winners of the Men’s Royal Tar Triples.

The triples were held at Nambucca Heads Bowling Club during the first five Tuesday evenings of the year.

This year, in an effort to balance out the sides a little more and to give more players a chance at winning prize money, the format was changed to a five-weeks round-robin-open-draw.

Eighteen teams participated and were restricted to one major singles or pairs championship winner, or one top pennant grade player.

Thanks to sponsorship from the Cal’s Plaza Butchery, and an increase from the Men’s Bowling Club tournament funds, prize money was increased to $340 allowing money down to eighth place-getter.

Winning teams were as follows with wins and total margins. First: G Lawrence, M Ellison, T Urquhart five wins +59. Second: B Behan, M Bettanin, W Wallbank four wins +35.

Third: J Miller, I Grierson, J Wright 4 wins -1. Fourth R McLellan, K Smith, M Rogers 3½ wins -3. Fifth: B Hayes, T Stokes, K Rostron three wins +41. Sixth: C Evans, N Pollard, G Beattie three wins + 25. Seventh: Mike James, Tom Behan, B Dodkin three wins +19: Eight: M Wright, C Smith, J Hogarth three wins + 16.
