Presentation day at the Island Golf Club last Saturday proved to be a hit with those who joined in.
A field of 113 hit off in the 4BBB medley event with a shot gun start at 10am.
Promptly at 2pm all of the golfers walked back into the club house.
Through sponsorship from the V-Wall Tavern all were treated to food and drink to kick off the presentation for the day’s round, followed by the annual presentation of our trophy winners and high achievers throughout the year.
Winning the day’s event was Lesley Buxton and Alvin Rapley with a round of 51 points.
Runners-up for the round were Keith Elphick and Don Atkinson with 49 points after Keith carded an eagle on the 12th hole par five to register five points on the card, only to follow it up with another five pointer at the difficult 14th par four.
Filling out the placing for the day were father and son combination of Ken and Paul Summerville with a round of 48 points.
Drive and pitch on the third hole went to Alex Freeman, with the 12th going to T Jones.
Nearest-the-pins for the round went the way of Paddy Byrne, Travis Rose, Alf Rose, Chris Thorndike, Ken Summerville and T Middhap. Ball rundown went to 44 points.
With standing room only we gave out the year’s awards with the following:
Club Champion Brian Burns, runner-up Glen Gillon.
Nett winner in A-grade was Nathan Smith from Beau Lavender.
B-grade went to Roger Waters, runner-up Blake Gamble. Nett winner David Rosser from John Morgan.
C-grade went to Rick Barlow with Josh Barnes the runner-up. Nett winner was Alf Rose from Sam Cook.
Best junior was taken out for the second time by Beau Lavender.
Medal winners for last year was Rob Coneybeare and this year was Brian Burns.
Men’s foursomes Brian Burns and Nathan Smith with Nett winners Stuart Johnston and Tony Fuller.
Mixed foursomes was taken out by Maxine Townsend and partner Alex Freeman while the nett was won by Judy Connell and Brian Burns.
Singles knockout winner was won by Nathan Smith and the 4BBB knockout going to Col Wormleaton and Andrew Bagust.
Ladies champion is Maxine Townsend with B-grade to Sally Welsh, and C-grade Judy Boyle.
Ladies foursomes champions are Kay McGoldrick and Ronda Rowe.
Singles knockout winner is Marilyn McNally and the 4BBB knockout winners are Coral McCann and Judy Boyle.
Men’s eclectic was run by Steve Barnes and held over all the stroke rounds for the year to date with A-grade going to Alex Freeman, B-grade to Paddy Byrne and C-grade to Dick Olive.
A big thank you to all who gave me support in staging the presentation thanks for the effort by all the office staff and the ladies captain Coral McCann.
With all comments being very positive after the event, I am sure we will use this format for our future presentations.
Thursday’s single stableford medley round had 119 starters that included 31 visitors.
Division 1 was taken out by Stephen Ball who posted a score of 41 points along the way picking up a nearest the pin and the money shot not a bad day’s work for any golfer.
Runner-up for the division was Blake Gamble with a round of 39. Nothing seems to stop this golfer as his handicap continues to fall.
Division 2 winner was Garry Thurlow with a score of 39 in his last game before returning to Sydney.
Next was Geoff Wilson with 36 points who won on a countback from playing partner Eric ‘Beau’ White, Bruce Power and Brian Squires.
What was left after Stephen Ball took his share of nearest-the-pins went to Robin Robertson, David Ogilvy, Stuart Johnston and Michael Ryan with a ball rundown to 34 points for the day.
Monday’s round saw a small field take to the course with Lori Smith getting the spoils from Ray Wynn, Lori a round of 39 and Ray 38 points.
This week’s rounds are all stableford with Saturday your last chance to get a run in the top gun shootout that will have a final on Sunday, November 8 that will determine who will be the ‘top gun’.
