It was a record year for the Elly Stig Memorial Golf Day as 212 golfers teed off in a four-person ambrose event to raise money for children’s cancer.
Brisbane Broncos NRL coach and supporter of the Elly Stig day sports memorabilia auction, Ivan Henjak, was at the event and presented winners of the day with their trophies.
This year’s golfing winners were Llyal Gregory, of Valla, Vince O’Sullivan, of Sydney, John Thoms, of Valla and Tim Schoeffer, of Bonville.
Best gross score went to Geoff and Blake Gamble along with Roger Waters and Dave McColl, who scored 28 points for the nine holes.
Ladies nearest-the-pins went to Judy Boden and Kelly Jones while the men’s was taken out by Cedlo and Steve Ward.
Straight drives at the third and 12th holes were won by Kate Robinson, Lee Beattie, Terry Costello and Keiran Waller.
Despite the hot and humid conditions, golfers enjoyed a competitive day on the greens.
A first in this year’s competition was awarding prizes to the best-dressed team of the day. While few joined in the novelty of dressing up, it was ‘The Pirates’ who took the best-dressed title for 2010.
The team, made up of Eileen Tritton, Kate Ahern, Frank Parsons and Vivian Edmunds, said that where they failed on the golf course, they made up by
winning the day with their costumes.
The memorabilia auction following the golfing event raised more than $20,000 for children’s cancer research.
Organiser Ray Stig thanked the community for their ongoing support of the golf competition and auction.
He said it was heart-warming that so many holiday-makers and golfers marked the Elly Stig Memorial Golf Day on their calender as a must-attend event each year.
