Championship golf has been the order of the week, with two championships decided.
Saturday was the final round of the four-ball knockout, with the spoils going to Col Wormleaton and Andrew Bagust after a good fight-back with Wayne Kelley and Des Schofield.
Col and Andrew took out the last seven holes to win the game two up.
Sunday saw us stage the mixed foursomes championship with eventual winner and holding onto her crown Maxine Townsend with new partner Alex Freeman after scoring a gross of 125 for the 27 hole event.
Making sure that they did not get things all their own way was the pairing of Brian Burns and Judy Connell with a 27 holes total 127. Others to show off were Lyn Grose and Nathan Smith with 130.
Taking nett honours Brian Burns and Judy Connell with 127/102.25 from Blake Gamble and Judy Boyle with 141/105.75 and Rod and Robin Robertson 137/107.
Saturday also saw us get a final pair for the singles knockout with the last two rounds played. The results were: Chris Ferris, over Dennis Tobin, with Nathan Smith winning one up on Peter Moxon.
Chris and Nathan will play off in the coming weeks.
Saturday’s round of single stableford was contested by 94 players with a new member Travis Rose getting his first win with a round of 41 points.
Runner-up for the day was Neil Duffus with a round of 40 points.
Taking out third spot was Lee Fewings with a countback coming into play after a round of 39 points and a 22 for the back nine, while John Hopkins managed 20.
The only player good enough to get a nearest-the-pin was Neville Wearing at the 8th, with the Pizza hole going to John Sheehan (Urunga) and Nathan Smith getting some pocket money. Ball rundown went to 33c/b and you needed a 20 or better on the way home.
Two divisions are becoming popular of a Thursday with a 100 players needed to make it all work.
Division 1 with a handicap of up to 19 was won by Stephen Ball with a round of 39 stableford points in another countback from John Fortescue, Stephen 20 back nine while John had 17.
Kel McGoldrick was next in after a round of 38 points.
Honours in division two went to Andrew Bagust, 39.
Coming in after a round of 38 point to get the countback was Les Mohr (21B9) from Geoff Wilson (20B9).
Geoff has informed us all he is on the move and watch out for a big improvement in any future championships as he hones his skills – all tongue in cheek.
Pin prizes went to Geoff Harvey, Dave Maloney, Geoff McCann and Martin Tizzard with Dave Trickett getting off with the money shot. Ball rundown to 35 and one needed 20 on the back nine to collect.
Next Saturday is the Monthly Medal sponsored by the Leagues and Sports Club. Sunday is another Island Sunday Sponsored by Jack Guggrty, with today (30th) being a Dolphin Day round.
Big pats on the back are deserving to all who turned up last Friday to help relay some of the turf on the fifth hole.
