Youth has won out over experience in the men’s championship, with Nathan Smith’s final round of 71/66 too good on the final day for Brian Burn’s 75/72.
Overall, scores for the championship are Nathan Smith 296/276, while Brian Burns finished with 300/288 and Greg McCoy on 309/293, with Greg telling me he had the best seat in the place, playing along side Nathan and Brian. Coming in under the radar to collect the nett was Tony Fuller 287.
Nathan was also winner on Saturday, Tony Fuller was runner up with 67 and Greg McCoy got the best gross with a 75.
After changes to the handicapping system, Peter Moxon found himself in B-grade, and he has been good enough to win the championship with a 338/286, from Graham Weary who scored 343/283. John Hopkins took the nett with 286.
Peter took out the Saturday round with 81/66, from Dane Hamilton-Giggins’ 67. Not since 1992 has Dennis Ashton been up on the C-grade championship board, but after a great round on Saturday, he finds himself back on it. He scored a round of 83/64, for 355/279.
Peter Miller, who has led throughout the three previous rounds, finished runner-up with 358/282, and Barry Morrison snuck in to collect the nett with 290.
Saturday’s results saw Dennis Ashton win, with
runner-up Andrew Bagust on 67. Nearest-the-pins went to Shane Pehi, Denys Tobin, Mark McFaul, on the pizza hole, and Dave Maloney with the money shot. Ball rundown went to 73 c/b.
Thursday’s round may have been Brian Burns’ downfall. He peaked too early with a round of 40 points in the stableford, winning the round from Donny Wills who carded a 39 to be runner-up.
It is also good to see Bruce Power make it into the vouchers with a round of 38, to get the count-back from Garnie O’Brien.
Ball rundown for the day saw 33 c/b, with the pins going to Stephen Ball, Greg McCoy with a pin and the money shot to Stuart Johnston, Chris Johnstone and Neville Wearing.
Sunday we played host to the pennant’s finals for divisions one and three. Woolgoolga took the title from Grafton in division one and Sawtell won after two play offs with Woolgoolga in the third division.
All agreed that the course is a pleasure to play on, as most are encountering very wet conditions and bogs at there own courses. Next Saturday is the monthly medal round sponsored by the Star Hotel Macksville.
