The stroke round was sponsored by Paul and Trevor Latham.
Given that Brian had shot par on each of the three earlier rounds, most thought that he was a ‘special’.
Eventually he did win but only after a number of hiccups that could have brought Allan into contention. Brian’s final round was 77 which saw him win by four strokes. When he came to the 13th tee he was two over but he rallied to have birdies on the next two holes. This was fortunate as he finished bogey, bogey, double bogey.
However Allan also could not hit his straps and was unable to grab the chances that Brian provided.
The B grade champion is Ben Evans who had 84 gross which gave him four rounds of consistent scores in his total of 344. Highlights for him came from seven pars.
Runner up in B grade was club captain, Kevin Coleborn, who finished five behind. Kevin had some disasters but kept trying and was rewarded with a birdie on the 18th.
The C grade actually finished in a tie so Roy Rudner and Barry McDonald had to play an extra three holes. Barry was victorious.
Paul Laverty won D grade from Steven Ash.
The four nett winners were Paul Mulvihill, Ben Evans, Brian Brabant and Paul Laverty. Runners up were Brian Burns, Kevin Coleborn, Roy Rudner and Stephen Ash.
Saturday’s competition was won by Tom Mulvihill from Karl Cooper. In B grade Greg Zirkler was victorious from Paul Laverty in C grade.
On Saturday, March 24 the qualifying round of the Keno Mixed four ball best ball stableford will be held. If players prefer not to enter the mixed, they can still play.
