Finally finding some form was the writer, with a round of 46 points, to get the main voucher for the round.
‘I know how much luck is required to get this type of score, but when everything turns out ok and the golf god is looking out for you it can happen’.
Spare a thought for ‘Squizzy’ Squire who produced a round of 45 points that would normally take out the top score.
Brian had to settle for runner up. Another who can feel hard done by is Wayne Purcell, with a score of 44, having to settle for a third voucher.
Making up the fourth voucher was Stuart Johnston, with a respectable 42 c/b from Derek Wynn.
Nearest-to-the-pins went the way of Craig Livingstone (Sawtell), Chris Thorndike, Stephen Ball, Greg McCoy, Garry Beggs.
Alvin Rapley made the money shot. The monthly medal played on Saturday had sponsorship from the Star Hotel, Macksville.
A field of 97 golfers were attracted to the course for the day’s event. Ian Vidler stayed in town long enough to win the A-grade medal with a round of 74/68. John Hopkins prevailed in B-grade with a round of 83/67.
John told us his time playing in Goulburn stood him in good stead. He learned how to handle the south-easterly winds after 13-years playing there.
Taking out the C-grade was Allan O’Brien, who at-long-last will move up to B-grade. Allan recorded a round of 84/65.
Runner-up in the grades went to Steve Cumming, with 81/69 in A-grade, Graham Weary, with 82/68 in B-grade, and youngster James Weimer, with 92/67 to take out C-grade.
The gross winners were Brian Burns in A-grade, with 76, Dave Maloney in B-grade, with 86, and Dave Ogilvy in C-grade, with 88.
Pins for the round went to Bryan Ussher, Ian Vidler, John Nebauer, on the Pizza hole, Barry Morrison, on 15th, and Paddy Byrne, who won the money shot.
Denys Tobin took out the refreshment raffle.
Ball rundown for the day went to 74 c/b, with just one score of 74 eligible.
Thursday’s round attracted a good field of 106 golfers, and we think it might have been the launch of the ‘Snow Mobile’ that attracted so many on a very cold morning.
Island golf on Sunday attracted one of our smallest fields. A win went to Jack Guggrty and Judy Connell.
The back nine-holes belonged to Judy, as she scored on all but one, letting Jack in with a three-pointer, to make up their 42 points for the day.
Runner-ups were Maxine Townsend and Dennis McNally with 40 points.
The pennant finals in divisions two and five played on Sunday, with both wins going to Coffs Harbour over Bonville.
Next Saturday we are back to the ‘top-gun-shoot-out’ stableford round.
