McCoy takes out Saturday comp

15 Oct, 2009 04:00 AM
Confusion as to the starting time of the annual general meeting has put the office bearers of the golf club on the back foot for the start of a new term.

Our financial report sent to all members stated that the meeting would start at 10.30am when in fact the start time was set at 9.30am last Sunday.

Presiding chairman Chris Thorndike held up proceedings until 9.50am to cater for any late comers and persons who may not be aware of the change. Unfortunately not all were aware after the start time was posted on the official notices placed around the club and announced to all at the raffle nights and at the past three presentations after golf.

The only change to the office bearers was Geoff McCann taking on the treasurer’s position from the treasurer of the past five years Barry Nicholson, who did not stand for re-election.

Barry has been involved for the past six years and considered it time to step aside.

Our thanks go to Barry, who has had a difficult time over the past couple of years in keeping our debts to a manageable level. All should be thankful for his contributions to the club and wish him well in the future.

On the golfing scene the unbelievable has happened.

‘All good things come to those who wait’ has occurred to the writer over the past couple of weeks.

With a field of 115 the leader board read like this: Kerry McCoy 41 points, Michael Barnes 40 c/b from Dave Rosser both with a 22 point back nine and a 14 on the last six the scorer took the individual holes to get a difference.

Peter Delaney came in next with a round of 39 c/b 22 back nine, along with another four players, John Hopkins (21), Blake Gamble (20), Ken Nicholls (19) and Tim Barnard (17).

Nearest-the-pins for the round went to Don Atkinson, John Hopkins, Garry Johnstone, John Patterson the pizza hole with the money shot going to Dave Maloney.

Play of the round must go to Dennis McNally with a ‘Claytons’ eagle. After finding the water at the first attempt at the par four 6th hole Dennis reloaded to land just in front of the 150 marker with his next shot going into the hole for a regulation par.

Ball rundown went to 35 c/b with the CCR recorded at 68.

Thursday’s round we had a field of 114 starters with the field split into two divisions.

Division one was taken out by John Hopkins with a round of 40 points on a count from Geoff Gamble, John recording a back nine 21 with Geoff 20.

Division 2 was again a surprise win for Trevor Peck with 41 points from Jack Guggrty 39.

In the windy conditions most found the going pretty tough with only Michael Ryan, John Hall 38 and Garnie O’Brien 37 recording better than par for the day.

Nearest-the-pins went to Chris Johnstone (Urunga), Rod Hardy, Robert Battaglini (Barnwell Park), Dave Sneddon, and Ian Vidler.

Money shot was taken out by Dennis Ashton, ball rundown went to 32c/b.

Last Monday’s field was the best for quite some time with 53 starters. Ron Brooks (Charlestown) won the day with a round of 40 followed by John Starr 39 and Denise Paluch rounding out the winners with a round of 38 to take the ladies voucher. CCR 68 and balls went to 34 c/b.

This Saturday the 17th we have a change in the format with a 4BBB Medley Shot Gun Start at 10am that will enable all to finish around 2.30pm to be followed by our yearly presentation.

For those not wishing to play the presentation should start about 3pm and all are welcome to attend.
