29 Oct, 2009 03:00 AM

Pink was the order of the day for competitors in the Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club Breast Cancer Charity Day on October 21.

The event attracted a strong field and resplendent in all shades from pale to puce, 47 ladies battled it out in a challenging nine-hole single stableford event.

Sponsor for the day was Ruth Peploe and perfect weather conditions brought out the best in many players.

Overall winner was Jenny Ainsworth, winning on a countback with a very commendable 21 points. Also with 21 points, Kay McGoldrick took out the Division 1 prize with Denise Paluch runner-up on 20 points.

Division 2 winner was Judy Connell on 20 points, just ahead of Helen Sims on 19 points.

Division 3 runner-up was Eila Ylinen with 19 points. The ball rundown went to 16 points.

NTPs on the 7th went to Lyn Grose (Div 1), Judy Connell (Div 2) and Lea Simacek (Div 3).

The specialty NTB events went to Glennis Russell on the 1st and Eila Ylinen on the 4th.

Winners of the ‘Mystery Team’ event were Jenny Ainsworth and Kerry Naylor with 56 points.

Congratulations to all who generously participated in and contributed to the charity day which raised around $300 for breast cancer research. Well done, ladies!

October 9 also saw the ladies’ AGM held with a new committee elected for the coming year, as follows: president Janet Yager; vice president Lyn Grose; secretary Di Hopkins; treasurer Betty Stockham; captain Coral McCann; vice captain Glennis Russell; committee members Jenny Ainsworth and Judy Boyle, and publicity officer Deb Ford.

It is a big week coming up with the Melbourne Cup nine-hole, two-person Ambrose on Tuesday, November 3, followed by the ladies 4BBB v Par event on Wednesday, November 4.

The Cup Day event is a shotgun start at 10am with lunch to follow at 1pm.

It looks like being a great day with sweeps, raffles and lucky door prizes all up for grabs.

You know what they say – you’ve got to be in it to win it – see you there.
