Plenty of us talk about the Boxing Day test, we had our own Boxing Day test on Saturday (26th) with 88 golfers taking on the course after putting on the pounds over Christmas dinner and needing to get some exercise with a round of golf.
Players came from as far as Tasmania in the south, Wee Waa in the west, and the north was well represented with River Lakes and Windaroo Lakes in Queensland.
Showing everybody the way around was our winner Paul Lawson with a score of 43. Paul thanked his playing partner Harry the Dog for help in collecting the keno from Burke and Wills in the shape of G Bush and S Pehi – he thought that the pair had covered enough distance around the course to take their place.
Next in to collect the runners-up voucher was Alex Freeman, who played early in the day and held the lead for most of the day.
Following the front runners, five players came in with 39, with the countback, Lyall Gregory, came out on top from Blake Gamble, Chris Ferris, John Miller and Peter Moxon.
Another three players scored rounds of 38 – Paddy Byrne, Chris Sargent, and Robert Rose. With the course playing with no run another six players finished with 37 points Dave Wilson, Robert Reid, Michael Carruthers, Noel Gaddes, Dane Hamilton-Giggins and Greg McCoy.
Pins for the round went to Paul Lawson, Geoff Gamble and Dennis Ashton. David Rosser walked away with the Pizza hole, and Dave Wilson found the Money shot to his liking.
Ball Rundown for the round went to 34c/b and the CCR recorded at 68.
Thursdays round proved to be a romp in the park, so to speak, for Garry Johnstone with a score of 45 points-well out in front of his nearest rivals.
Once again the countback system came into use for Neil Duffus and John Glass – both having shot a score of 39 points and John getting the better of the countback.
Five players finished the round with 38 points, with Blake Gamble getting the better of the count from Don Atkinson, Daryl Flanders, Drew Glasson and James McArthur.
Finding out that new clubs can often help your game Jean Moxon had a hole-in-one on the difficult fifth hole, and this is her first-ever she told me. Jean recorded a 1/6 on her score card.
Others to figure in the pins were Dave Trickett, Rick Barlow, Lauchie Woodgate, and Brian Burns.
Norm Simms picked up his pay cheque at the 18th hole with the money-shot win.
Ball rundown for the round went to 34 c/b with the CCR recorded at 69 for the day.
Next Saturday is our monthly medal round and all are welcome, if you hold an AMH.
Likewise for our Thursday medley competition and our Monday competition that is held as a separate men’s and ladies’ competition.
Trust all have a great new year and that you all find the golf God at your side in at least some of
your rounds.
