A stroke event was sponsored by Trevor Ledger of Macksville Wreckers on Saturday (5th).

On Sunday golfers contested the Springfield Pastoral Company’s annual open day.

Brian Burns returned the best gross of 75 on Saturday, which won him the ‘spoon-of-spoons’ play-off.

This competition saw all monthly spoon winners during the year contest Saturday’s stroke round. Brian and Allan Clarke played in the same group, which was bound to bring out the best in each.

They shared the play-of-the-day award when they both scored eagles on the par five third.

Karl Cooper won the A-grade net with 69. Tony Adams was best in B-grade and in C-grade Max Ward was best with 69 net.

The ‘medal-of-medals’ play-off resulted in a win for Tom Mulvihill, who had 71 net.

The runners-up in the three grades were Beau Lavender, Greg Zirkler and Brian Brabant.

Jim McArthur won a countback on 34 to win the front nine and bragging rights over Allan Clarke. Jeff Gore also had to survive a countback, this time with 33 points which allowed him to stir young Beau Lavender and take out the back nine.

Beau lavender, Grahame Vincent and Paul Donges were on target to win nearest-to-pin awards.

Open day – perfect weather for golf welcomed the 70 golfers who signed on for the annual open day.

Dewayne Laverty, with a gross score of 76, won the major award from a strong field of A-grade players.

Undoubtedly, if Dewayne were able to play more often, he would lower his seven handicap.

He set up his win on the front nine with eight pars and one birdie.

Unfortunately on the back nine he had six bogeys to go with his lone birdie on the par four eleventh.

Allan Clarke with 77 was runners-up in A-grade on a countback from Brian Burns.

Gary Clarke won the runners up in A-grade with 69 from Michael Simpson and Ross Donnelly.

The long drive was hit by Allan Clarke and nearest-to-pin shots were hit by Gary Clarke and Michael Simpson.

Best gross in B-grade came from visitor, Phil Forrest, with 80. In his first game on the course, Phil had nine pars and a birdie on 13.

Runners-up in B-grade was Greg Zirkler with 88 from Nathan O’Connor 89.

Net winner in B-grade was Noel Mackay with 69 from Mark Buchanan 71 and Jeff Gore 73, both Noel and Mark were visitors from Bowraville.

Nathan O’Connor hit the long drive and Phil Forrest and Rama Gennat both hit nearest-to-pin shots.

In C-grade, Barry McDonald was best gross from Tony Hardge with 89 and Max Ward with 95. Stephen O’Connor easily won the best net with 61, which was the best net on the day. Peter Bryant was runner-up net with 66 from William Perrie with 69.

Max Ward hit the long drive and Barry McDonald and Glenn Edwards hit nearest-to-pin shots.

On Saturday (12) golfers will contest a four-ball aggregate stableford.

In the starter’s chair will be Beau Lavender.

The day’s competition will be sponsored by Jim Wilkes of Macksville Quality Meats. Each year Jim supplies Christmas meats as trophies and puts on extras for events such as long drives, nearest-to-pins.
