North Arm local, Alina Tape, is no stranger to the Guardian News sports pages. Her reel of sporting achievements have seen the young athlete make headlines for many years.
And at just 12-years-of-age Alina, the youngest of four children, is making headlines once again as she was named this year’s Nambucca Shire Council Sports Girl of the Year.
Alina was nominated by Macksville High School where she has excelled in swimming, cross country and athletics to in state and national competition levels.
In her first year at high school, Alina won medals in all three disciplines.
At the combined high schools (CHS) athletics championships Alina won a gold medal in the 12-years 800 metres.
In cross country, she won bronze for the NSW All Schools Championships; and in swimming, Alina won an individual CHS swimming medal. During 2009 she was also a member of the 15-years-girls CHS gold medal 4x50 metres swimming relay team.
These achievements continued on from Alina’s primary school success, where in Year 6 Alina won gold at the 2008 Pacific School Games, which are held every four years.
However, it is all in a day’s work for the shy young athlete whose passion for sport has made her family and her school very proud.
