Under-7s awarded trophies at gala day

02 Sep, 2010 04:48 PM
The Under-7s small-sided football gala day on Sunday, at Nambucca Heads, was a roaring success.

The kids got plenty of game time and a trophy from North Coast Football.

The Strikers canteen did a brisk trade, thanks to the organisation from Leanne Cooper and Beth Cassidy, along with help from parents.

The last football game of the season for the Under-16 boys showed the progress they have made over the year.

They played the top team of their competition, Boambee, who had previously scored 10 goals off the Strikers and were expecting the same this time.

The Strikers kept them to 6-0 with several close scoring chances ourselves.

A valiant effort all year by a young team for their division.

The Strikers Under-14 boys team were confident of a win against the Boambee Jets side, that has struggled all season.

After the first goal to the Strikers, it was one way traffic to the Boambee goal and it was interesting to see the lads’ capabilities to find space and shoot from anywhere in the attacking half.

With shots coming from anywhere at anytime, it made it extremely difficult for the Boambee defence, but they showed composure and never gave up.

The Strikers Under-16 girls were in full force against Boambee, with their shots coming from both wings and drives up the centre of the park.

Good to see them enjoying their football.

Home games for next weekend, September 3 and 4, are: women’s third division verse the Woolgoolga Cougars on Friday at 7pm, and the men’s second division play Sawtell in Saturday for the semi-finals.

On Saturday the Under-13s and Under-14s play Boambee and the Under-16 girls take on the Coffs Tigers for a grand final berth.

Results for August 13 and 14 saw the women defeated Dorrigo 1-nil, Under-16 girls defeated Boambee

5-nil, Under-16 boys were defeated by Boambee 6-nil, Under-14s

defeated Boambee 9-nil, Under-13s were defeated by Woolgoolga 2-1, Under-12s were defeated by Urunga 8-nil and the Under-11s defeated Coffs United 3-2.
