Held during the Queensland school holidays, the Gold Coast Championship Cup pitted teams from around Australia in a week of competition.

Kellie took a place in two sides, the Under-15s and Under-17s, and made an appearance in the grand final of both age groups, scoring seven goals throughout the tournament to boost her teams’ chances of a grand final berth.

It was a tough round of matches against teams from as far as Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia.

The Under-17s went into the grand final undefeated, but could not take home the coveted Cup. In the Under-15s, which had lost just once on its journey to the final, the team was successful.

Kellie said the experience was very rewarding, both as a chance to keep up her off-season fitness, and to reunite with teammates that had made up her Australian team that toured Germany earlier this year.

Kellie followed up her appearance at the Cup by attending the Joeys Championship Cup in Inverell, where she played for the Joeys team in the Under-15s and open divisions. Both went on to win their divisions in the three day competition held from October 8 to 11.

The Macksville High School student took up her customary spot in the mid-field, defending and attacking.

Kellie has high hopes of being selected to represent the North Coast in football again this year, with selection trials currently underway.

Selection would see her play in a variety of different venues around the State every third weekend.

As for next season, now that she has reached the age she can play for the local women’s teams, the question is, which one?

“I want to see where the opportunities come up,” she said.

“I hope that I will be able to play well and make the national side again this year.”
