Nambucca Hotel in final as Ex-Services stumbles

Nambucca Hotel is the first team into the A-grade cricket grand final following their win over minor premiers Ex-Services last Saturday.

This game was played at Thistle Park, where Ex-Services batted first and were dismissed for 102 in 26 overs. James Collision (34) and Monty Schmidt (31) top scored and also shared a second wicket stand of 48. Jake Clarke (3/20), Dean Hillery (3/14) and Jason Ahearn (2/31) were Hotel’s top wicket takers.

The Hotel in reply scored these runs for the loss of two wickets with Michael Stennett top scoring with 51 not out while Dane Luffman batted well with 25. Hotel needed just 20 overs to win by eight wickets and progress to the grand final in two weeks time.

Nambucca Heads’ season has finished after a loss to fourth placed Taylors Arm in the other A-grade semi final.

This game was played at Bowraville where Nambucca Heads, batting first, collapsed for 59. They were all out in 27 overs with Matt Ramsey top scoring with 12.

Kevin Laverty (3/7) was the top wicket taker while Paul Mulvihill, Andrew Maggs and Andrew Welsh took two wickets each for Taylors Arm.

Taylors Arm in reply scored the winning run in their 23rd over with Paul Mulvihill top scoring with 31.

Greg Watts (2/3) was the best bowler for Nambucca Heads. Taylors Arm won by five wickets and now plays Ex-Services next week for a spot in the grand final.

Warrell Creek won convincingly in the major semi against Country Club. Their game at Donnelly-Welsh saw Country Club 8/134 after 40 overs. Stuart Wenham top scored with 62 not out while Neale Howle (17) and Phil Smith (13) contributed well. Joe Costa and Terry Adams took two wickets each for Warrell Creek.

Warrell Creek in reply lost just one wicket in getting their win with Joe Costa (83) and Reece Adams (35) scoring an unbroken partnership of 107 for the second wicket.

The win came in the 22nd over with Warrell Creek now the first team into the B-grade grand final in two weeks time.

The B-grade minor semi final saw Talarm as winners over Bowraville at Biffin Field. Talarm, batting first, scored 7/147 from 40 overs with Colin Moxon (57 not out), Evan Cotten (20) and Nigel Wilbow (17) top scoring. Marc Gill (3/22) and Glen Fitzgerald (2/22) were Bowraville’s best bowlers.

Bowraville in reply put up a gallant effort only to be dismissed 13 runs short with 134. Marc Gill opened the batting with 42 while he and Ron Gleeson (30) shared a second wicket stand of 52. Josh Fleming (32) and Ryan Cooper (13) were the only others to score well. Bowraville were dismissed in their last over with Nigel Wilbow (3/36), Colin Moxon (3/14) and Jenny Brabant (2/24) being Talarm’s top wicket takers. Talarm were winners by 13 runs and will now play Country Club next week to challenge for the other spot in the B-grade grand final.

The starting time for the finals on Saturday is 12.30pm.

Next week’s draw is: A-grade Ex-Servcies v Taylors Arm at Thistle Park; B-grade Country Club v Talarm at Donnelly-Welsh.
