Mulvihill-Powell bust top partnership score

Taylors Arm’s Ben Mulvihill and Damian Powell scored the season’s highest partnership in local cricket in their game against Warrell Creek.

Playing out at Taylors Arm, these two opened their innings and remained together for 172 runs Ben scored 88 while Damian top scored with 91.

Daniel Ledger batting at Number eight gave his team a big finish by remaining 42 not out. Taylors Arm completed their 40 overs at 9/287.

Warrell Creek top wicket-takers were Tom Mann (4/42) and Dean Ellis (3/41).

Warrell Creek batters were never in the hunt chasing this total. They were dismissed in 23 overs for 109 with Tom Mann (23) and Joe Costa (18) their top scorers.

Daniel Ledger took 3/13 from five overs while other bowlers took a wicket each. Taylors Arm winners by 172 runs.

Competition leaders Macksville Ex-Services continued on their winning way with a good result against Nambucca Heads.

Playing at Coronation, Park Ex-Services batted first and at 8/112, it looked like Nambucca Heads was going to wrap them up.

A nineth-wicket partnership of 49 then followed between Josh Collison (18) and Kyle Miller (26) taking Ex-Services to a reasonable total of 169 off 33 overs.

Top-scorer was Tyle Doolan (32) with five boundaries while Monty Schmidt (23) hit four boundaries.

Brad Ronan, following his stunning bowling performance last week, took 4/43 from eight overs.

Nambucca Heads then batted and were restricted by some solid bowling throughout the innings.

They could manage only 128 in 30 overs with Tony Blanch (25) and Matt Ramsey (21) top

scoring. Jesse O’Grady 4/30, Matt Ward 3/38 and Grant Collison 2/32 all bowled eight overs and were well-rewarded for their efforts.

Ex-Services were winners by 41 runs.

Talarm travelled to Donnelly/Welsh and played Nambucca Hotel.

Talarm batted first scoring a fairly reasonable 153 in 39 overs.

Evan Asbiotis (36), Chris Budden (33) and Bobby Winner (22) all scored well for Talarm.

Jimi Allan, Matt Lindsay and Mick Lindsay took 2 wickets each for the Hotel.

Dean Welsh (19) and Dane Luffman (48) opened the Hotel innings with a 73-run stand. This pair was dismissed without another run being added then Michael Stennett (28*) and Jason Ahearn (53*) continued on with an unbroken stand of 82 to take the Hotel to victory in the 27th over.

John Cowan was Talarms’ only wicket taker with 2/40.

Hotel were the winners by eight wickets.

The last game of the round was on Thistle Park turf where Bowraville did battle with Macksville Country Club.

Bowraville batted first, scoring 74 in 35 overs with Martin Gleeson top scoring with 14.

Phil Smith and Jim Angel took two wickets each for Country Club.

Country Club in reply struggled against some fine bowling from Marc Gill and Ryan Cooper and lost wickets much quicker than they hoped.

It was not until the last batters of Phil Smith (14*) and Dave Ringstad (0*) put on 10 runs to take Country Club to their first win of the season.

Ben Oliver (26) and Daniel Buckley (11) scored valuable runs earlier while Marc Gill took Bowraville’s bowling honours with 4/18 from his eight overs.

The current point score is Ex-Services 30, Nambucca Heads 20, Taylors Arm 20, Warrell Creek 20, Nambucca Hotel 19, Bowraville 10, Talarm 10 and Country Club 9.

Competition cricket will take a Christmas break and resume on January 9, 2010.
