Heads’ bowlers overthrow Macksville pitch

Nambucca Heads travelled to Thistle Park and met Macksville Country Club on what appeared to be a ‘bowler friendly’ pitch in local senior cricket last Saturday.

Nambucca batted first and fought well by

forging out 6/218 in their 40 overs. Greg Watts top scored with 71 while Troy Rixon (47*) and Justin Saker (43) took advantage of the improving pitch. Nambucca scored 76 runs in their first 20 overs and then accelerated to score an additional 142 in the second 20 overs.

Troy Rixon and Justin Saker had the top partnership with 73 for the sixth wicket.

Jim Angel for Macksville Country Club was their top wicket taker with 3/32 from his eight overs. Country Club in reply was no match for the Nambucca bowlers.

They were all out for 80 in 27 overs with Jim Angel top scoring with 35. Greg Watts took 3/3 along with Steve Savage 3/18 for Nambucca. Nambucca winners by 138 runs.

Warrell Creek travelled to Biffin Field where they encountered a red hot Talarm.

Warrell Creek batted first and were bundled out for 69 in 17 overs. Joe Costa top scored with 33 while four bowlers for Talarm took two wickets each with John Cowan setting the best figures of 2/5 from four overs Talarm reply needed just eight overs to win and lost one wicket doing so.

James Livoch remained 33 not out while Rod Chaseling scored 18 these two put on 68 for the opening partnership. Talarm winners by nine wickets.

Macksville Ex-Services travelled out to Taylors Arm where the home side batted first and made a handy 8/181 in 40 overs.

Rick Fry top scored with 76 not out while Kevin Laverty (26) and Steve Wilks (17) batted well. Troy Grace was Ex-Services top wicket taker with 3/38. Ex-Services then batted and chased this total down in 29 overs.

Troy Grace opened the batting and top scored with 59. Jesse O’Grady made 38 while brothers Grant Collison (37*) and Josh Collison (11*) steered their team to victory with out too many dramas.

Ex-Services were seven wickets down with Troy Grace and Monty Schmidt getting their team’s top partnership of 67 for the second

wicket. Andrew Welsh was Taylors Arm best with 2/21.

Next weeks draw is: Nambucca Heads v Warrell Creek at Coronation Park. Bowraville v Macksville Ex-Services at Bowraville. Macksville Country Club v Talarm at Thistle Park turf. Nambucca Hotel v Taylors Arm at Donnelly/Welsh.
