Hot weather greeted all crickters last Saturday for the start of our longer session of cricket – 40 overs per innings.
The match at Coronation Park saw Taylors Arm win a close game over Nambucca Heads. The visitors batted first, scoring 5/223 with Rick Fry (55 not out), Nigel Sumner (50) and Kevin Laverty (40) as top scorers.
Taylors Arm was 4/89 when Nigel Sumner joined Rick Fry. These two put on 96 for the fifth wicket.
Nambucca Heads then batted and completed their overs at 6/214 – nine runs short of victory. Greg Watts top scored with 74 while Matt Hardy (41 not out) and Mark Bryen (26 not out) almost took their team to a win.
Andrew Maggs and Daniel Ledger took two wickets each for Taylors Arm. Taylors Arm won by nine runs.
Across town at Biffin Field, Talarm was at home to Bowraville.
The visitors batted first and were all out for 165 in 35 overs with Luke Gill (31), Marc Gill (25), Ryan Cooper (25) and Ron Gleeson (23) top
scoring while Andrew Fredericks and Bobby Winner each took three wickets for Talarm.
Talarm in reply were dismissed for 117 Chris Budden (41) and Colin Moxon (16) were Talarm best while Marc Gill and Josh Fleming took two wickets each for Bowraville.
Jack Ingham took a great over-head catch mid-field to end Talarm’s innings in the 27th over. Bowraville won by 43 runs.
Macksville Ex-Services played 20/20 champions Nambucca Hotel at Donnelly/Welsh.
The Hotel batted first and was dismissed for 150 in 30 overs. Dean Welsh top scored with 73 while Dean Hillery (20) and Mick Lindsay (19 not out) batted well.
Troy Grace took 3/30 from five overs while Grant Collison, Matt Ward and Josh Collison took two wickets each.
Ex-Servcies got off to a shaky start at 3/19 when openers James Collison was joined at the crease by older brother Grant.
These two put on 108 for the fourth wicket with James scoring 69 and Grant getting 60. Jesse O’Grady (11 not out) then guided his team to victory in the 25th over, giving Ex-Services a win by four wickets.
Hector Edwards and Jason Ahearn took two wickets each for the Hotel.
Warrell Creek played Macksville Country Club at Thistle Park turf with Country Club batting first and being dismissed for 96 in 33 overs. Ben Oliver (39), Rick DeRuiter (11) and Joe Barrett (10) were the only batters to reach double figures.
Josh Bartlett bowled six overs and took 3/24 while Tom Mann and Barry Lockyer took two wickets each for Warrell Creek.
Warrell Creek in reply scored the winning run in the 20th over with Charles Bush (45 not out) and Clinton Daley (19 not out) their two highest scorers Warrell Creek won by eight wickets.

The over 40s began their representative season with a great win over Coffs Harbour last Sunday.
This game was played at Thistle Park turf with our lads batting first and scoring 8/186 in their 40 overs. Ron Gleeson (42 retired), Terry Baldwin (40 retired), Colin Moxon (29), Trevor Welsh (19), Steve Wilks (16) and Ian Powell (12) all
batted well, while Rick Fry remained 10 not out. Coffs then batted and were well placed at 1/93 at 20 overs.
Two wickets fell immediately after drinks, which put Nambucca Valley back in with a chance.
The bowlers and fielders then lifted again and toiled hard under the hot afternoon sun.
Their efforts were well rewarded with seeing more wickets falling to have Coffs Harbour 9/169 after their 40 overs. Steve Wilks was the top wicket taker with 3/12 while Andrew Maggs 2/32, Rick Fry 1/20, Ron Gleeson 1/17 and Colin Moxon 1/28 assisted well.
Nambucca Valley won by 19 runs.
